Privacy, simply
This policy covers the NYC Live website and the NYC Live app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. The Apple app and website use the same live-data service, but their device preferences and usage measurement differ.
The Apple app
No account is required. Saved stations, walking time, direction, layer choices and the last map area are stored locally on your device. NYC Live does not operate a cloud account or sync these preferences between devices. Removing the app's local data removes those preferences.
Location access is optional and requested when you press the location button. The reported coordinates are used on your device to center the map; they are not sent to the NYC Live API or used for background tracking. The resulting map area can be remembered as a local map preference.
The app uses Apple's MapKit to display maps. Apple processes map requests under Apple Maps & Privacy. Figtree is bundled with the app, so the native app does not request fonts from Google Fonts.
We do not include advertising or app analytics SDKs, cross-app tracking, or the website's page-usage counter in the native app. The app sends HTTPS requests for public transit and city feeds to our service. It does not send saved stations, walking time or a location history.
Website usage counts
We count page loads, views with at least 30 seconds on screen, switches between map and desk, selected feature actions, and support-link clicks. Counts include a broad device size and referral category, such as search or Reddit.
We don't put your email, IP address, exact location, selected station, full referring URL, or browsing history into these counts. A random page ID prevents duplicate events and is never reused across page loads. The data expires after 90 days. These counts don't identify unique people.
The update list
If you join, we save your email, whether you asked about the developer API, the page where you signed up, and when you agreed to receive occasional NYC Live updates and feedback requests. We don't sell this list or share it with advertisers.
We show a private removal link when a new address is saved. Keep that link so you can delete your address without an account. Unverified signups expire after one year. Mailing and email verification are not yet enabled.
Service providers & network requests
NYC Live's website and API run on Cloudflare, which processes network information such as IP addresses to deliver and protect requests. Our operational API metrics count endpoint categories, cache results, errors and response duration; those metrics exclude IP addresses, query strings, headers, coordinates and email addresses. Infrastructure request logs and backups have their own retention.
Our application doesn't log signup bodies or email addresses. Deleting an address from the active update list doesn't instantly remove provider backups.
The web map and desk save selected settings in your browser. The web location button asks for browser permission and keeps reported coordinates in page memory; the resulting map area may be remembered in your browser. The web map and desk request fonts from Google Fonts. These web preferences and the website usage opt-out do not change the native app.
If you follow an optional donation link, the payment provider handles your payment under its own privacy policy. Our click count doesn't tell us whether a donation was completed.
Questions or a privacy request?
Email support@nuta.life for privacy questions or requests. You can also visit our support page. If you joined the update list, your private removal link deletes the active signup without an account. We do not need your precise location or device password to help.
