Your city,
at a glance.

A live New York City transit map and a departures board for the moment you need to leave.

NYC Live brings subway estimates, reported buses, Citi Bike availability, service alerts, elevator outages, traffic, weather and modelled air quality into one quiet view.

Independent software for New Yorkers and visitors. NYC Live is not affiliated with the MTA, Citi Bike, NYC DOT or the City of New York.

See the city move

Choose the layers you need. Explore subway lines, estimated train positions, reported buses and nearby bike docks. Source details show where each feed comes from and how recently it was updated.

Subway markers are estimates derived from arrival predictions, not GPS locations. Bus and bike availability depend on provider coverage.

Know when to leave

Choose a station and direction, set the time you need to walk to the platform, and see live departures with a leave-by suggestion. Save your regular stations for another day.

Predictions can change. Leave-by advice is hidden when current data is unavailable.

Room for your routine

On iPhone, switch between the map, departures and saved stations. Wider iPad, unfolded iPhone Duo and Mac windows place the map beside the departures board, keeping your station and preferences.

Apple app requirements: iOS/iPadOS 18 or later, or macOS 15 or later. An internet connection is needed for live feeds. No account is required.

Your preferences stay yours

Saved stations, direction, walking time and map preferences stay on your device. The location button asks permission when you use it. Browsing the city works without location access.

The Apple app uses Apple Maps. Our privacy policy explains the app, website and service providers separately.

A little help

Why are arrivals or map markers missing?

Open Sources to check the feed's freshness and any coverage warnings. Live data needs an internet connection. The app refreshes while in the foreground and hides expired layers or advice rather than presenting old predictions as current. Some routes or providers may be temporarily unavailable.

Does the map show every train's exact location?

No. Subway positions are estimates based on published route geometry and arrival predictions. MTA Bus Time provides reported bus positions where available. Neither is a guarantee of arrival time.

How do I change my station or walking time?

Select the station name to search for another station. Use the direction control and walking-time stepper on the departures screen. The star adds or removes the selected station from Saved.

How do I manage location access?

Tap the location button to center the map. If access is denied, change NYC Live's location permission in your device's Privacy & Security settings. You can always move the map manually.

Are updates available while the app is closed?

Live feeds refresh while the app is active. This version does not provide background tracking, push alerts, widgets or Live Activities. Reopen NYC Live to check current conditions.
