What NYC Live provides

NYC Live is an independent transit map and departures board for New York City. It presents information such as subway arrival predictions, estimated train positions, reported bus positions, bike availability, service alerts, elevator outages, traffic, weather, air quality and published city reports.

NYC Live is not affiliated with or endorsed by the MTA, Citi Bike, NYC DOT, the City of New York or other data providers. Provider names identify the sources of information, not an official relationship.

No account or payment is required to use the current map, departures board or Apple app. This release has no in-app purchases or subscriptions. The website's optional update-list signup is separate from using the app; its handling is described in our privacy policy.

Estimates, delays and service limits

Data can be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate or unavailable. Arrival times and leave-by suggestions are predictions, not guarantees. Subway markers are estimates based on route geometry and arrival predictions, not precise GPS locations. Bike and dock counts can change before you arrive. Air quality may be modelled rather than measured at your location.

We obtain transit data from providers and redistribute it through our own service. Data displayed by NYC Live may lag behind the provider's current information. A recent request or refresh does not guarantee a recent underlying observation. Source details and freshness labels help explain those limits.

Check official service information, station signs and conditions around you before making travel decisions. NYC Live does not provide emergency guidance, guaranteed accessibility or a guarantee that a route, elevator, vehicle or bike will be available. For urgent transit information, consult MTA's official channels; for weather emergencies, use official weather alerts.

The website and service are offered on an as-available basis. We do not promise uninterrupted access, complete coverage or a particular update frequency. We may change features, data sources and reasonable usage limits, or suspend unavailable or abused parts of the service. Nothing in these terms removes rights or protections that applicable law does not allow to be excluded.

Use the service considerately

Use NYC Live lawfully and avoid interfering with the service or other people's access. Do not bypass access controls, evade rate limits, probe for private data, disrupt systems, or use the service to impersonate a provider or misrepresent information. Public access does not include access to private operational or subscriber information.

We may restrict requests that threaten security, overload the service or violate these terms. NYC Live does not provide public user profiles, user posts or direct messaging. Published 311 reports and service alerts come from their identified providers.

Sources and other people's work

Data, maps, names, trademarks, artwork, fonts and software components retain their respective owners' rights and applicable licenses. The Sources view identifies providers; notices and licenses supplied with the app or datasets continue to apply. These terms do not grant ownership of third-party content, a right to use a provider's trademarks, or permission to redistribute data contrary to its source terms.

Provider terms include MTA data-feed terms and the terms attached to NYC Open Data datasets. The Apple app uses Apple's map services. Links to external sites lead to services with their own terms and privacy practices.

The Apple app license

Apps distributed through the App Store are licensed under Apple's Standard End User License Agreement unless a custom license is provided in the store. NYC Live does not provide a custom App Store EULA for this release. These website and service terms do not replace that license.

Saved stations and preferences are stored locally. Location access is optional. Read our privacy policy for the differences between the app, website and third-party services.

Changes and questions

We may update these terms as the service changes. The effective date above identifies the published version. Changes apply from their stated effective date, subject to any notice or consent required by applicable law.
