We're starting a shared release log for NYC Live. This is a snapshot of what we've built so far; future entries will be short lists of additions, improvements and fixes, labeled by platform and version.
Web — 0.1.0
Versioning starts today, November 2, 2026. These features include earlier updates, collected into our first numbered web release.
- Live transit map: subway estimates, LIRR and Metro-North trains inside the city, PATH station countdowns, and NYC Ferry boat positions and routes.
- MTA buses: reported positions, route lines, stops and predicted arrivals.
- Citi Bike: bikes, e-bikes and open docks, with grouped stations as you zoom out.
- Nearby and line views: find nearby subway departures, follow a selected line and see its stops and arrival times.
- Saved trip: save a start and destination in your browser, compare subway options and see walking, leave-by and arrival estimates from current predictions.
- Desk departures board: choose a station, direction and walking time, with nearby bikes and station status alongside departures.
- City conditions: service alerts, elevator and escalator outages, road speeds, published 311 reports, weather, weather warnings and modelled air quality.
- Make it yours: optional layers, saved map preferences, location on request, light and dark themes, and blog updates with RSS.
Explore the map or open the desk board.
API — v1
- Shared feeds: 14 feed resources for transit, bikes, service status and city conditions at
/api/v1/feeds/, includingrail, pathandferry. - Source transparency: timestamps, freshness, errors and coverage information, plus a source health endpoint.
- Efficient updates: conditional requests with ETags, shared caching, and subway-route and bus-route/stop filters. Public feed reads need no client API key.
Subway and commuter rail positions are estimates; PATH shows station countdowns. Buses and ferries use reported positions. The API keeps those distinctions visible in its source information.
iPhone, iPad and Mac — 0.1.0
- Map and departures: subway estimates, buses, Citi Bike, city layers and a station board with leave-by suggestions.
- Saved stations: station search, direction and walking-time preferences stored on your device.
- Native layouts: adaptive map and departures views, dark mode, Dynamic Type and location access on request.
Next Apple update — 0.1.1: LIRR and Metro-North trains, tappable subway stations, smoother train movement and improved map controls. As of November 2, both the iOS/iPadOS and Mac updates are awaiting App Store review.
